Remember Darren Abbey, the bonehead in Idaho who thought he was going to make a black man leave town, only to get knocked out cold by said black man. Well, when that happens and you end up getting five years in jail for it, saying that you "probably made the wrong decision" is pretty much self-evident!

A self-proclaimed skinhead, who got knocked out with one punch after threatening to stab a black man in North Idaho in July 2011, will be spending a bit of time behind bars for his hate crime.

First District Judge Benjamin Simpson sentenced 29-year-old Daren Abbey to up to five years in prison—a three-year fixed sentence to be followed by a two-year indeterminate sentence. Abbey will be allowed to be brought back before the judge after completion of alcohol and drug counseling while in the custody of the Idaho Department of Correction.

Prosecutors said that Abbey, who sports several neo-Nazi tatoos, threatened to stab the black man, saying "blacks were not welcome in Bayview and he had better leave before something happened." Police said Abbey then allegedly poked the victim in the chest. But Abbey said he felt he had been "hit by a brick" when he was knocked out with one punch by the black man. Abbey apparently was unaware of the writing on the back of the black man's T-shirt: "Spokane Boxing Club Champion."

Abbey entered a so-called "Alford" plea, admitting that there was enough evidence to convict him of a hate crime.

While Abbey was being held in the Kootenai County Jail, he was charged with an additional count of malicious harassment and assault on jail staff—both felonies—for tangling with a guard.

During his sentencing, Abbey said he "probably made the wrong decision."

"The result of that is I got beat up pretty bad," he said, before being led away in handcuffs.
